Lindsay Lohan completes house arrest

Lindsay Lohan completes house arrestLindsay Lohan has completed her house arrest.

The troubled actress—who was sentenced to the confinements of her Californian home for 35 days in May in lieu of jail time after taking a necklace from an upmarket boutique store and violating the terms of her 2007 conviction for driving under the influence (DUI)—walked out of the property yesterday afternoon (June 29) but instead of throwing a party, she made her way to the Los Angeles Downtown Women's centre, to begin her 480 hours of court-ordered community service. When asked how she felt to be free again, the Mean Girls star—who has had her alcohol-monitoring bracelet taken off—said: "I'm excited to start community service and focus on my work."

As well as the 480 hours of community service, Lindsay will also have to attend an anti-shoplifting class.

Lindsay—who turns 25 on Saturday (July 2)—was sentenced to the community service and 120 days in jail after stealing the necklace, but she was granted house arrest at her home in Venice Beach due to prison overcrowding and because she is a non-violent offender.

Her lawyer Shawn Holley recently insisted the decision to spare the actress jail time was "fair."

She said: "Anyone with her background would have gotten house arrest, she didn't get a special deal. I worried perception would harm her. But everyone—the judge, the courts—were professional, so it was fair."

Lindsay Lohan sentenced on misdemeanor theft

Lindsay Lohan sentenced on misdemeanor theft

Lindsay Lohan "supports" the sentence imposed on her after pleading no contest to misdemeanor theft. The troubled actress has been ordered to undertake three years probation, serve 120 days in jail, complete 40 hours of community service, undergo psychological counselling, pay fines of $180, and attend a shoplifters alternative scheme for taking a necklace from an upmarket boutique and breaching the terms of her 2007 probation but says she is now ready to move on with her life after Judge Sautner made a ruling today (May 11).

She said in a statement: "I am glad to be able to put this past me and move on with my life and my career. I support the judge's decision and hold myself accountable for being in this situation. I have already started my community service at the Downtown Women's Center and thank everyone there for their warm welcome.

"I hope to be able to fulfil my obligation without any press attention. I think the media spotlight should be on issues such as homelessness and domestic violence instead of on me."

Lindsay has asked to serve her prison term under electronically-monitored house arrest, and though her request is expected to be granted, her lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley, insists her client is not receiving special treatment.

She said: "As they would with any other defendant with a similar sentence and minimal criminal history, the Sheriff's Department and Probation Department will determine if Lindsay is eligible for electronic monitoring and early release. She is neither requesting nor receiving 'special treatment.' Lindsay and I would both like to thank Judge Sautner and the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office for their fair handling of this case."

Last month, the actress was deemed to have breached the terms of her 2007 probation—which was set following a driving under the influence conviction—because of the theft charges.

She was sentenced to 480 hours of community service and 120 days jail, for which she must turn herself in on June 17.

Lindsay recently admitted she has "made a lot of poor decisions" and has feared her numerous arrests and rehab stints would ruin her career.

She said: "I've made a lot of poor decisions in the past and I'm dealing with the consequences of those decisions so there were times when I was concerned but I'm a fighter and I know that I have a lot of work to do to gain the respect back and I'm willing to do the work that I have to do to be an actress."

Lindsay Lohan pleases shelter staff for her "professionalism"

Lindsay Lohan pleases shelter staff for her "professionalism"Lindsay Lohan was "very professional" on the first day of her community service.

The troubled actress—who began her 360 hours of court-ordered work on Friday (May 6)—delighted staff at Los Angeles Downtown Women's Center (DWC) with her positive attitude and caring display towards the homeless people at the facility. A source told RadarOnline.com: "Staffers didn't know what to expect, but Lindsay showed up and was thoroughly engaged during the day.

"Lindsay was truly humbled. Staffers had her sort through donations and talk to the clients. Lindsay was especially moved by the children of these homeless women."

Despite her celebrity status, 24-year-old Lindsay—who was ordered to work at the facility as part of a 480 hour community service sentence handed to her last month for breaking the terms of her 2007 probation after she was recently charged with stealing a necklace from a Californian boutique—insisted on no special treatment and was happy to undertake the tasks she was given.

The insider added: "Some people want to get their hours done with as little effort as possible.

"This doesn't seem to be the case with Lindsay. The women were initially excited to meet Lindsay because she is a celebrity, but that wore off very quickly and Lindsay has made it clear to everyone that she doesn't expect nor want any special treatment."

As well as 360 hours at the homeless shelter, the Machete actress has also been ordered to undergo 120 hours of janitorial work at the Los Angeles County Morgue.

She was also sentenced to 120 days in prison, which she has been bailed from.

Lindsay is due to return to court on Wednesday (May 11) for a pre-trial hearing.

Lindsay Lohan to work as janitor for community service hours

Lindsay Lohan in New York on March 31.Lindsay Lohan’s next role will involve a broom and mop. And no, she will not be playing Cinderella.
The "Mean Girls" actress will soon be starring as a janitor at the Los Angeles County coroner's office thanks to a judge's decision last week to sentence her to 120 hours at the county morgue as part of a probation violation sentence for an alleged jewelry theft.
Judge Stephanie Sautner on Friday sentenced Lohan to 120 days in jail and 480 hours of community service, including 360 hours at the downtown Women’s Center on skid row and 120 hours at the Mission Road coroner’s office. The judge ruled that Lohan violated the terms of her 2007 probation for drunk driving by wearing a gold chain as she left a Venice jewelry store in January and failing to return it until she learned that detectives were preparing to serve a search warrant.
While Lohan is appealing Sautner's ruling, the judge said she must start the community service hours within a week. The actress has a year to complete the required hours.
“We have community service workers all the time,” said Assistant Chief Ed Winter of the coroner’s office. “They do janitorial tasks. They clean up and sweep up.”
Lohan will be treated like any other community service worker assigned to the office by the courts, Winter said.
Lohan bailed out of jail Friday within five hours of getting the 120-day jail term.
Sautner also reduced a felony grand theft case related to a Jan. 22 necklace theft to a misdemeanor. Sautner is the third judge to handle Lohan in the last four years.
Another judge agreed last September that Lohan should stay at the Betty Ford Center rehabilitation facility for three months instead of going to jail.
Sautner indicated Lohan disrespected her previous judges, noting the actress "thumbs her nose at the court."
Sautner noted the expletive on Lohan's fingernail last July caught by a courtroom camera.
"She walks into court with 'F U' on her fingernails," the judge said. "I don't know what that means unless it has 'I am' before it."

Lindsay Lohan posts bail after being sentenced to four months in jail
Lindsay Lohan has been bailed from custody, hours after being sentenced to four months in jail.

The Mean Girls actress was given the term as well as 480 hours of community service by Judge Stephanie Sautner in a Los Angeles court. Testimonies were given against her in the case of a $2,200 necklace she allegedly stole from a top-end boutique and evidence was shown that she had violated her probation stemming from a 2007 driving under the influence (DUI) conviction.

Judge Sautner said: "She is to serve 120 days... forthwith. Perhaps she might see how women who have fallen on real hard times have to live and maybe she will change."

However, Lindsay's lawyer Shawn Chapman said she would appeal the ruling, allowing her to leave the Lynwood Correctional Facility and return to her Venice Beach home after her $75,000 bail was paid.

Her grand theft charge was also downgraded to a misdemeanor by the judge, who said she often sees more serious cases get similarly reduced.

After Kamofie & Co jewellery store owner Sofia Kaman gave her case against the 24-year-old star, Judge Sautner agreed that Lindsay had been "brazen."

She said: "I see the intent here. I see a level of brazenness with, 'Let me see what I can get away with here.'"

However, she said she was giving the actress—who pleaded not guilty in court yesterday (April 22)— "an opportunity" by reducing the charge.

Following the proceedings, Lindsay's father Michael Lohan told RadarOnline.com: "I am not very happy. I don't think her case was handled the right way."

According to the website, district attorney Jeanette Meyers will appeal the judge's decision to reduce Lindsay's charge from a grand theft to a misdemeanor.

She is now set to return to court on May 11 for a pre-trial hearing in her misdemeanor case, with the actual trial planned for June 3.
